Prof. Mohan Munasinghe, Director of the Carbon Consulting Company (CCC) and Founding Director of the Munasinghe Institute for Development (MIND), was recently awarded a top world energy award from the Energy Globe Foundation in Vienna. The award was given for his exceptional efforts and stellar contributions to energy, sustainable development and climate change. Dr. Wolfgang Neumann – Executive Director of Energy Globe, presented the award on behalf of Maneka Gandhi – President of Energy Globe and Indian Minister of Women and Child Development.
The Energy Globe Foundation is a non-profit organisation, which was founded by energy pioneer, Wolfgang Neumann. The foundation serves to raise awareness about using resources in a sustainable manner and to implement sustainable projects for future generations and to improve living conditions in developing countries.
Prof. Munasinghe was invited by the Government of Austria to advise senior government administrators on the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and best practices for sustainable energy development in 2015. In addition, he delivered a keynote lecture to students and researchers on topics related to sustainability.
Prof. Munasinghe, one of the most distinguished climatologists in the world, also shared the 2007 the Nobel Peace Prize with former U.S. Vice President Al Gore and colleagues of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC-AR4) of which he was Vice Chairman. A recipient of several honorary doctorates (honoris causa), he is a KIVA Guest Professor at Darmstadt University, Germany; Visiting Professor at the Vale Sustainable Development Institute, Federal University of Pará, Brazil; Distinguished Guest Professor at Peking University, China; and International Advisory Board Member, SCI, University of Manchester, UK. Previously, he was a Senior Advisor/Manager at World Bank, Washington DC, covering sustainable development, environmental policy, water, energy and transport; as well as Chancellor, International Water Academy, Oslo; and Director-General, Sustainable Consumption Institute, University of Manchester.
