February 7, 2018

Ranked one of Sri Lanka’s best beach hotels, Citrus Waskaduwa is a one-of-a-kind luxury escape in the Indian Ocean. This upscale, beachfront getaway is the ideal fit for your tropical island escape. The hotel grounds feature a casual restaurant with terrace, two bars, and a cafe for your afternoon tea. As one of their environmental initiatives this year, Citrus Waskaduwa has teamed up with the Asian Tree of the Year (ATOY) contest, aiming to raise awareness about conserving the forests across Asia. Organized by The Carbon Consulting Company (CCC), the contest seeks to photograph, publicize, and preserve trees that hold a special meaning to individuals and communities. The lucky winner for the ATOY 2018 will win a 2-night stay for two at this beach haven and enjoy the splendors of Sri Lanka.

Sanith de Silva Wijeyeratne, CEO of CCC, stated “We are excited to have the Citrus Waskaduwa join us in the fight against deforestation this year. Demonstrating that the tourism and hospitality sector is just another champion for change in Sri Lanka. The involvement of a prestigious hotel for this year’s contest portrays the shift businesses are taking to preserve our biodiversity. Thanks to our sponsors we will be able to show the wonders of Asia to the winning participant. The contest is open to the public and we encourage everyone to share with us their fondest stories along with a compelling photograph of their special tree. We look forward to the submissions and wonderful stories that are yet to be heard.”

Mr. Mani Sugathapala, Director of Marketing for Citrus Waskaduwa, said “We were honored when Sanith approached us to become sponsors of this unique contest to raise awareness of our forests. There is much to be said about the expansive biodiversity that can be found across the island and the need to preserve it for generations to come. At Citrus, we take pride in our involvement with Asian Tree of the Year and hope to change the hospitality landscape for more action in preserving our trees.”
